Landscape & Lawn
All landscape must be maintained in an attractive, live, healthy, growing condition. The HOA encourages the use of low-water gardens (Xeriscape) and resource conservation. If you have a lawn, we encourage you to either leave grass clippings on your lawn, use them as mulch in other parts of your landscape, or compost your clippings.
- The EPA estimates that, during the growing season, 25% of the volume going to landfills is compostable yard waste. In a landfill, yard waste breaks down anaerobically and creates methane, a greenhouse gas 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
- In addition to the methane, hauling yard waste increases carbon dioxide emissions and uses more fuel.
- Leaving grass clippings on the lawn returns water, nitrogen, and other nutrients to the soil, reducing the need for fertilizers by up to one third.
- Grass clippings break down quickly, and they do not create thatch.
